On November 28, 1959 I married Gloria Vila, of Beckley. Our wedding ceremony took place at St. Fancis DeSales Catholic Church on Oakwood Avenue. Gloria is a member of the WWHS Class of 1954. That was the class that had the great football and basketball teams. State championships in both sports.

At the time of our marriage, I was employed at George’s Fashions and Gloria was working at United Mine Workers. In the beginning, we had a small apartment on South Kanawha Street by Black Knight Country Club. After two children: Sherri (age 43) and Lora (age 42) I began working at the Beckley Fire Department. That would have been May 1971. About that time, Gloria got a job at Stratton Junior High School as secretary of the school. I retired from the Fire Prevention Bureau in June 1999 with the rank of lieutenant. Gloria also retired at the end of the school season that same year.

We have four grandchildren: Chris (21 years), Jennifer (18 years) Kelsey (12 years) and Noah (six years.)

I have several hobbies that keep me busy: hunting, riding my four-wheeler and competitive shooting. Gloria’s Honey Do List also keeps me hopping. We spend a lot of time with family and the grandchildren and I attend all of our class functions as they take place. I am looking forward to the 50th Class Reunion in August 2008 and hope to see you there.

Your friend and classmate,

– Wayne
